Which Bug is That?

The Tangle Bug!

January 2014 I got a book for my birthday. I often get books for my birthday. You can't go wrong with a book. This was one I had seen in Kinokuniya in the centre of Sydney. It was about Zentangle. I had a flick through, thought "this looks interesting" and asked my mother-in-law if she would give it to me (gift suggestions never go astray).

Unable to wait for my birthday (which is at the end of the month), I went and researched Zentangle on line. And found the wonderful creation of Maria Thomas and Rick Roberts and the wonderful world of the Tangle community. The rest, as they say, is history.

Not only have I taken to tangling like a duck to water, but it has changed the way I look at other aspects of art creation. Abstractionism, which was always opaque to me and a source of great stress, now presents no fear. Indeed, I have been spurred on because Zentangle seems to have unlocked a part of my creative mind that was previously inaccessible, or incomprehensible. I'm not sure which.

If you want to know more about Zentangle specifically, and tangling in general, start with the source of the lovely well from which we all now drink, Maria and Rick and their website. And if you can, get a lesson or three from a CZT. Even if you think you are pretty experienced, you will learn so many new things. It really is worth it.

But be warned. This is highly addictive. Once you have the bug you are not going to want to let it go.
